It was easy to see why most people preferred listening to the radio back when
Television was first made available. Radio was mostly personal, family friendly, and performed on a stage
in your mind. TV was just ordinary moving black and white photos. Photos of things you would ordinarily
find in the newspapers. Sometimes out of focus and very two-dimensional. Leaving less to the
imagination.
Certainly TV way back when was a momentary curiosity. Just filling
gaps between radio listening. Early television was like looking at old black and white photos through wax paper.
Ill defined and hard on the eyes. Radio was tried and true. Vivid and easy to
follow. Here to stay. Fun, educational, and most entertaining.
I grew up with radio in the early 1950s and it became my companion and friend. As a
young Okie kid, the lights were bright on my nind's radio stage. Bright and in living color.
Sounds that came from the radio speaker painted vast landscapes before my eyes and made it three-dimensional.
Real as life. Moving, changing, and so real you could touch it. Taste it.
Smell it. It was exciting! It was R-A-D-I-O. I loved it!
